1. (in business, affairs) representative; agent
   On je zastupnik te firme za celu Srbiju. — He is the company's agent for all of Serbia.
   Njen zakonski zastupnik je potpisao ugovor. — Her legal representative signed the contract.
2. (in court) a party's representative in court; counsel
   Zastupnik tužioca je tražio odlaganje ročišta. — The plaintiff's counsel asked for the hearing to be postponed.
3. (of an idea, theory) advocate; proponent
   Bio je veliki zastupnik zdravog načina života. — He was a great advocate of a healthy lifestyle.

A member of parliament in Serbia is poslanik, not zastupnik. Defense counsel in a criminal case is branilac; zastupnik usually represents a party in a civil case or the injured party (zastupnik oštećenog).
