Serbian Latin ↔ Cyrillic

Serbian has 30 letters, one for each sound, and every letter has a pair in the other script. The Latin alphabet uses č, ć, đ, š and ž, and three letters written with two signs: lj, nj and dž. Cyrillic has one letter for each of them: Ч, Ћ, Ђ, Ш, Ж, Љ, Њ and Џ.

Cyrillic is the official script under the Serbian Constitution. In everyday life, advertising and online, Latin is just as common, and many Serbs write both. The letters match one to one, so a text converts from one script to the other with nothing lost.

In Latin, the letters Lj, Nj and Dž are written with two signs. Usually they are one letter: konj → коњ. In a few words they are two letters that meet where two parts of the word join: injekcija → инјекција, nadživeti → надживети. The converter knows these words, as the dictionary does.

Nowhere. The conversion and the dictionary lookup run in your browser, and the text is never sent to a server. It is kept only in this browser tab, so it's still there when you open an entry and come back, and it's gone when the tab is closed.
