smola

1. colloq. Croat. bad luck; tough luck
   Kakva smola, baš danas je pala kiša! — What bad luck, it rained exactly today!
   Imao sam smolu na ispitu. — I had bad luck in the exam.
2. resin
   Ruke su mi lepljive od smole. — My hands are sticky from the resin.
   Iz stabla bora curi smola. — Resin is oozing from the pine trunk.

In the sense 'bad luck' the word is Croatian; in Serbia: peh, baksuzluk, maler. In the sense 'resin' it is used in Serbia as well.
