1. Croat. colloq. (in sport, especially skiing) run
   Nakon prvog laufa vodi mladi skijaš. — After the first run a young skier is in the lead.
   U drugom laufu bila je najbrža. — She was the fastest in the second run.
2. colloq. (of work, play, activity) momentum, flow, a stretch when everything goes smoothly and without a break
   Kad uhvatim lauf, napišem deset strana za sat. — Once I hit my stride, I write ten pages an hour.
   Nemoj da me prekidaš, u laufu sam. — Don't interrupt me, I'm on a roll.
3. colloq. (among hunters, of a gun) barrel of a gun or other firearm
   Lovac je pažljivo očistio oba laufa svoje dvocevke. — The hunter carefully cleaned both barrels of his double-barrelled gun.

In the sense 'run (in skiing)', lauf also occurs in Serbian sports jargon; the usual term is vožnja (prva vožnja, druga vožnja). The colloquial senses 'momentum, flow' (u laufu, u jednom laufu) and 'gun barrel' are used in Serbia as well.
