zalaz

1. formal (of the sun, moon) sunset; setting
   Na zalazu sunca nebo je postalo crveno. — At sunset the sky turned red.
   Pesnik opisuje tihi zalaz sunca nad rekom. — The poet describes the quiet sunset over the river.
2. formal (of a career, life) decline; end
   Bio je već na zalazu karijere. — He was already at the end of his career.

In Serbia the usual form is zalazak: zalazak sunca, na zalasku karijere. The form zalaz is mostly poetic or bookish, and also occurs in Croatian usage.
