1. ironic (of people, institutions) worthy; vaunted
   Naši vrli političari opet su nešto obećali. — Our worthy politicians have promised something again.
   Vrli komšija je opet parkirao na mom mestu. — My lovely neighbour parked in my spot again.
2. formal virtuous; excellent
   Bio je vrli čovek i dobar otac. — He was a virtuous man and a good father.

In modern usage it is mostly ironic and placed before the noun.
