1. Croat. (+ acc.) to support; to provide for
   Sam uzdržava celu porodicu. — He supports the whole family on his own.
2. (uzdržavati se od + gen.) to refrain; to abstain
   Već mesec dana se uzdržavam od slatkiša. — I've been staying off sweets for a month now.
   Uzdržavao se od komentara o tom slučaju. — He refrained from commenting on the case.
3. (of feelings) to hold back; to restrain
   Jedva je uzdržavala suze na sahrani. — She could barely hold back her tears at the funeral.

In Serbia: izdržavati for financially supporting someone; uzdržavati in that sense is Croatian usage.
