Jedva smo se spasli iz zapaljene kuće. — We barely escaped from the burning house.
(of clothes, objects) to fall down; to slip off

Spale su mu pantalone nasred ulice. — His trousers fell down in the middle of the street.
(of amount, level) to drop; to decrease

Temperatura je noćas spala ispod nule. — The temperature dropped below zero last night.

Spao je sa devedeset na sedamdeset kila. — He went down from ninety to seventy kilos.

These are two different verbs: spasti 'to save' (spasem, spasao) and spasti 'to fall' (spadnem, spao).
