Nastavnik is the broadest term for anyone who teaches; in everyday use it refers above all to subject teachers in grades 5–8 of primary school. A teacher of the lower grades (usually 1–4) is an učitelj. Profesor is the usual designation for secondary-school teachers (gimnazija, vocational school) and also forms part of the university titles vanredni profesor and redovni profesor.
