2. (as opposed to islands) mainland
   Trajekt vozi sa ostrva na kontinent dva puta dnevno. — The ferry runs from the island to the mainland twice a day.

Crni kontinent corresponds to the dated English expression 'the Dark Continent'; it still appears in Serbian journalism, but can be felt as a colonial cliché, so 'Africa' is the safer translation.
