2. short line; tick mark
   Svaka crtica na lenjiru je jedan milimetar. — Each mark on the ruler is one millimetre.
3. (in literature, journalism) sketch; vignette
   Objavio je zbirku crtica iz seoskog života. — He published a collection of sketches of village life.

In Serbian punctuation crtica is the short hyphen, while the long dash is called crta.
