2. forgiveness
   Tražio je oproštaj od žene. — He asked his wife for forgiveness.
   Molim te za oproštaj, nisam tako mislio. — Please forgive me, I didn't mean it that way.

In the sense 'farewell' it usually takes od + genitive: oproštaj od prijatelja.
